My Street: KNITSONIK Colourwork Mitts

  • Circle of Stitches 66 Wharf St Salem, MA, 01970 United States (map)

This creative workshop lays the groundwork for designing a pair of fingerless mitts which celebrate where you live.

The session begins with an inspiring and practical presentation exploring the design process behind the My Street Mitts in the KNITSONIK Stranded Colourwork Sourcebook. This will be followed by a practical session focused on designing your own charts, based on shapes, details and visual elements found in the place where you live.

We will not be doing any knitting at all! This is about learning to look at the simple, everyday details of the world around us, and making simple charts which celebrate them.

We’ll cover:

  • Common factors and making charts which play nicely together

  • Working within the maths of an existing design

  • Going from a drawing to a chart

For the last part of the session, we’ll briefly touch on some different strategies for picking out colours with which to knit your ideas, and how to experiment with colour when knitting from your charts.

You will need…

  • squared paper

  • a ruler

  • a pencil

  • a sharpener

  • an eraser

  • a few photos of where you live: please print these out rather than bringing them in on a screen device if you can.
